President-elect Donald Trump has named billionaire Elon Musk and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to head the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), reports Fox News.
Trump stated that the duo will collaborate to “dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies.”
“This will be, potentially, ‘The Manhattan Project’ of our time,” Trump declared in a Tuesday evening announcement. He added that Republican politicians have long aimed to achieve the goals set forth for DOGE.
The president-elect emphasized that Musk and Ramaswamy will offer “advice and guidance from outside of Government” and work alongside the White House and Office of Management & Budget to implement large-scale reforms. Their mission is to foster an entrepreneurial approach within the federal government.
The initiative aims to streamline government operations and improve the quality of life for Americans. “Importantly, we will drive out the massive waste and fraud which exists throughout our annual $6.5 Trillion Dollars of Government Spending,” Trump stated. “They will work together to liberate our Economy and make the U.S. Government accountable to ‘WE THE PEOPLE.’”
Trump announced that their work would conclude by July 4, 2026, marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. “A smaller Government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America,” he said.
Ramaswamy responded to the appointment in a post on X, saying, “We will not go gently, Elon Musk.”
Since suspending his presidential campaign in January 2024, Ramaswamy has been a vocal Trump supporter. In a recent statement, the Roivant Sciences founder confirmed he would withdraw from consideration for the Ohio Senate appointment. “Whoever Governor DeWine appoints to JD’s seat has some big shoes to fill. I will help them however I can,” he wrote.
Similarly, Musk has played a prominent role in Trump’s campaign, actively supporting him in key battleground states. Commenting on his new role, Musk posted, “Threat to democracy? Nope, threat to BUREAUCRACY!!!”
Musk, who previously voted for Democratic candidates, including President Biden, endorsed Trump this summer following the first assassination attempt on the former president in July.
Trump’s cabinet appointments have followed swiftly after his decisive victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. Among other key positions, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is expected to be named Secretary of State, and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem will likely lead the Department of Homeland Security.
Additional picks include Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) as U.N. Ambassador and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee as Ambassador to Israel.
