Greta Thunberg and the group of passengers detained by the Israel Defense Forces while attempting to sail a boat to Gaza will be shown graphic footage of the October 7 Hamas massacre.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that he directed the IDF to present the footage to Thunberg and the 11 other left-wing activists upon their arrival at the Port of Ashdod.
“It is appropriate that the antisemitic Greta and her fellow Hamas supporters see exactly who the Hamas terrorist organization they came to support and for whom they work is, what atrocities they committed against women, the elderly, and children, and against whom Israel is fighting to defend itself,” Katz said.
While portions of the 40-plus minute video have circulated online, the full compilation shown to the activists includes unblurred footage of both deceased and living individuals, and features several clips that have not been made public.
The video reportedly depicts over 120 bodies, including children, as well as graphic scenes of beheadings, homes and individuals set on fire, and unarmed civilians being shot at point-blank range.
On Sunday night, the Israeli Navy’s Shayetet 13 commando unit, along with the Snapir harbor security unit, intercepted the “Freedom Flotilla.”
The group aboard the vessel Maldeen was given a final warning to turn back. After they refused, IDF forces boarded the boat around 3:00 a.m., provided the passengers with sandwiches and water, and then towed the vessel to the port of Ashdod.
The Israel Foreign Ministry shared a photo of Thunberg smiling when being handed the sandwich and water, with the caption “Greta Thunberg is currently on her way to Israel, safe and in good spirits.”
Following Thunberg’s arrest, a prerecorded video message of her was released, where she said she was “kidnapped” by the IDF.
“If you see this video, we have been intercepted and kidnapped in international waters,” she said. “I urge all of my friends, family and comrades to put pressure on the Swedish government to release me and the others as soon as possible.”
In a Monday press briefing, Israeli government spokesman David Mencer said Thunberg gave a “new definition to the word chutzpah.”
“In more than 20 months, Greta has not found one single moment to call for the release of our hostages, not one single moment, and she has the chutzpah to say that she has been kidnapped,” Mencer said. “Greta will be returned back to her home country very very shortly with the firm message that isn’t a music festival, it’s a warzone.”
