Tom Homan: Family Detention Centers Will Be Reinstalled to Combat Mass Illegal Immigration

President-elect Donald Trump is poised to reintroduce several of his earlier immigration policies as he resumes office next month. Tom Homan, the incoming border czar, revealed in an interview with the Washington Post that family detention centers will be reinstated as part of the administration’s strategy to combat unlawful mass migration.

In 2021, President Joe Biden ended the use of family detention centers. However, Homan confirmed that illegal immigrant families would once again be detained, even if it requires constructing additional facilities.

“We’re going to need to construct family facilities,” Homan told the publication. “How many beds we’re going to need will depend on what the data says.”

Homan stated that the administration remains committed to deporting families with U.S.-born children if the parents are illegal immigrants. Parents would have the choice to determine whether the entire family or just the illegal immigrant parents would be deported.

“Here’s the issue,” Homan said. “You knew you were in the country illegally and chose to have a child. So you put your family in that position.”

The border czar emphasized that deportations, including those of non-criminal illegal immigrants, would be conducted humanely.

“We need to show the American people we can do this and not be inhumane about it,” Homan said. “We can’t lose the faith of the American people.”

Trump’s administration is signaling a strong stance on border security and illegal immigration. Homan, known for his hardline approach, previously warned local leaders against interfering with federal deportation efforts. He threatened legal action for any obstruction.

Homan also told the Washington Examiner that federal agents would operate in “sanctuary cities,” leading to numerous “collateral arrests.”

“I mean, not priority criminal arrests. We can’t get the bad guy in jail,” Homan said. “That means we have to go into the communities and find them, and there may be others. We expect a lot of collateral arrests.”

The renewed policies reflect a broader commitment by Trump’s administration to crack down on illegal immigration while reinforcing border enforcement efforts.
