The FBI seized electronic devices belonging to New York City Mayor Eric Adams as part of an investigation into potential illegal donations from the Turkish government during his 2021 campaign.

FBI agents, armed with a court-authorized warrant, approached Adams on the street and collected two phones and an iPad. Adams’ campaign attorney, Boyd Johnson, stated that upon learning of the federal investigation, they immediately reported an individual’s improper actions to investigators, Fox News Digital reports.

Adams, emphasizing transparency and cooperation, complied with the FBI’s request on Monday night, although he has not been accused of any wrongdoing and continues to cooperate.

Adams, a former law enforcement member, expressed his expectation for his staff to follow the law and fully cooperate with any investigation.

The FBI’s actions follow the recent search of campaign consultant Brianna Suggs’ Brooklyn home, where three iPhones, two laptops, papers, and other evidence were seized. Notably, a “manila folder labeled Eric Adams,” seven “contribution card binders,” and other materials were also taken. Investigators are looking into a Brooklyn construction company with ties to Turkey and a Washington, D.C., university with connections to both Turkey and Adams.

This financial scrutiny follows previous instances involving individuals in Adams’ orbit, including charges against Eric Ulrich, the ex-buildings department commissioner, and six individuals charged in a scheme to raise illegal straw donations for Adams’ 2021 campaign.
