A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper discovered 27 illegal immigrants being transported in a horse trailer on Friday, a spokesperson shared via X.

Video footage reveals an officer stopping a large truck pulling the trailer. When officers inquire about the trailer’s contents, the truck driver, Jose Guadalupe Salinas, responds with “two horses.” Officers then request to open the trailer to see the horses. Salinas agrees but warns “they are aggressive.”

Upon opening the trailer doors, officers find the illegal immigrants packed inside and immediately handcuff Salinas.

The illegal immigrants were “distressed and sweating profusely” and three individuals “were severely dehydrated and required medical attention due to extreme heat and no ventilation,” according to the spokesperson.

DPS handed the 27 Mexican nationals over to U.S. Border Patrol. Border Patrol also took custody of Salinas and plans to file federal human smuggling charges against him.

Texas DPS recently shared another arrest related to illegal immigrant smuggling, captured via body camera, showing an officer pursuing another suspected smuggler.

“Come here!” the officer shouts in the video. “I’m going to get you. You better stop. You’re not getting away.”

The suspect then drops to the ground with his hands behind his back as the officer catches up and handcuffs him.
