President Donald Trump is looking to install an express lane for deportations of illegal immigrants using local police departments.
The Department of Homeland Security has signed agreements with 562 state and local law enforcement groups utilizing a federal law that allows local agencies to enforce some aspects of federal immigration laws, The Daily Wire reported.
The number of agreements is a 316 percent increase from the Biden administration, the memo obtained by The Daily Wire said.
“Under the agreement, state and local law enforcement agencies are able to conduct immigration enforcement operations with ICE oversight, use federal immigration databases to identify the status of arrestees, and initiate ICE detainers to hold illegal aliens until ICE can gain custody of them, providing what could be a massive force multiplier in the Trump administration’s effort to deport at least one million illegal aliens per year,” the report said.
The Trump administration said in the memo that the agreements have already brought results.
“Since January 20, our partnerships with state and local law enforcement have led to over 1,100 arrests of dangerous criminal illegal aliens,” the memo said. “ICE has also trained over 5,000 officers across the country to help track down and arrest criminal illegal aliens in their communities.”
The Immigrant Legal Resource Center, back by George Soros’ Open Society Foundation, complained that the 287 (g) agreement “are designed to extend the reach of the Trump deportation machine by getting localities to do ICE’s work at their own expense.
It claimed that the “agreements lead to racial profiling, civil rights violations, isolation of immigrant communities, and family separations. When local officials are working with ICE, police stop and harass Latinx residents at increased rates, while immigrants withdraw from their communities, avoid business that requires them to give their personal information, and decline to participate in public events where law enforcement may be present.”
But Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE) bragged that one such agreement, Operation Tidal Wave, which it said was a “first of its kind” led to the arrest of 800 illegal immigrants in Miami.
“In just six days, 1,120 criminal illegal aliens were arrested, including dozens of rapists, murderers, drug traffickers, and MS-13 members,” the Department of Homeland Security said in its memo. “This resounding success is a preview of what is to come: Effective and efficient coordination at all levels of law enforcement to remove illegal aliens.”
“America is no longer a sanctuary for criminal aliens,” it said. “We will find you. We will hunt you down. We will deport you. And you will never come back.”
