FBI Director Kash Patel shredded a Democrat lawmaker who asked if he thought the Signal chat incident should be investigated by the FBI.
The incident involved liberal reporter Jeff Goldberg being added to a signal chat with high-ranking U.S. officials as they discussed a proposed attack on the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists.
“Do you believe that it is now time, potentially, for the FBI to open an investigation into this?” Pennsylvania Democrat Rep. Chrissy Houlahan asked.
“I’m not going to comment on that,” Patel fired back without waiting.
“Because you’re the director of the FBI, you don’t believe it’s appropriate to comment on that?” the Democrat said.
Patel explained that there is an ongoing investigation and a lawsuit brought by the American Oversight organization claiming that the officials involved in the Signal chat, which included Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, violated the Federal Records Act.
“Because there’s a process in place,” the FBI Director said. “There’s ongoing litigation. The National Security Council is reviewing this matter, and I’m not going to discuss any open or closed investigations.”
“That ongoing investigation literally — the lawsuit happened today or yesterday afternoon, and the idea that you don’t have an opinion on this at this point is frustrating to me,” Houlahan said.
“No, it’s not.” Patel shot back, ignoring the Congresswoman’s attempts to interrupt him. “I’m not going to prejudge any matter, and the men and women of the FBI will call the balls and strikes. Not you.”
Houlahan continuously said that she was “reclaiming my time” to ask one “final question.”
When the FBI director finished his answer, the Democrat asked the House Intelligence Chairman, Arkansas Republican Rep. Rick Crawford, to give her time to respond.
“The Gentlewoman is recognized,” Crawford said before hitting her with the kicker.
“You have four seconds remaining,” he said.
“No! I have more than that,” the Democrat insisted.
“You have two seconds remaining,” Crawford said.
The Democrat Congresswoman kept complaining until Crawford slammed his gavel and said, “The Gentlewoman’s time has expired.”
