No Striking Dockworkers Side With Harris During Live Fox Interview

President Joe Biden may be reluctant to prevent dock workers from disrupting the U.S. economy, but that doesn’t mean all longshoremen plan to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.
During a conversation with a diverse group of New Jersey dock workers on Thursday, a Fox Business correspondent asked how many intended to support Harris in November.
The silent crowd showed no signs of support, prompting laughter from a host back in the studio. Eventually, one of the workers remarked that it’s “nobody’s business” who the union members are backing. “Interesting,” said host Maria Bartiromo in response to the development.
Economists anticipate that it may take several weeks before Americans feel the impact of the strikes in the form of goods shortages on retail shelves.
In the meantime, President Biden has allowed the International Longshoremen’s Association to operate freely at the ports despite having the executive authority to terminate the strike under the 1974 Taft-Hartley Act.
On Wednesday, Biden stated that he doesn’t “believe” in the law and expressed his support for union members. So, dock workers being given such freedom while refusing to show respect for Harris is even more remarkable.
However, the one-time, hands-off interview by Fox hasn’t deterred Harris from reaching out to them.
“This strike is about fairness. Foreign-owned shipping companies have made record profits and executive compensation has grown. The Longshoremen, who play a vital role transporting essential goods across America, deserve a fair share of these record profits,” Harris said in a statement to The Hill.
She then falsely claimed that former President Donald Trump “wants to pull us back to a time before workers had the freedom to organize,” arguing that he makes “empty promises” to workers but “never delivers.”
In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, Trump attributed the strike to the Biden-Harris administration’s failure to control inflation.
“The strike was caused by the massive inflation that was created by the Harris-Biden regime,” Trump told Fox News Digital. “Everybody understands the dockworkers because they were decimated by this inflation, just like everybody else in our country and beyond.”
