Martin County sheriff’s detectives identified Oscar Amaya-Guevara, 41, as a suspect after DNA from the sunglasses linked him to the scene of an unresolved crime, Fox News reports.
The burglary by Amaya-Guevara took place in late 2023, followed by two additional burglaries in the same vicinity, officials stated. Already held in Martin County Jail, Amaya-Guevara was charged with one burglary and soon became the primary suspect in the other two cases, according to the sheriff’s office.
In January, he allegedly broke into a home, where he encountered a teenage girl, violently throwing her to the ground. The teen confronted him and live-streamed the incident to her father.
Amaya-Guevara was apprehended shortly afterward. His DNA sample was matched to the sunglasses from an open case.
Oscar Amaya-Guevara, in the United States illegally from Honduras, is the subject of a detainer request from U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement, asking local authorities to inform federal immigration agents when an illegal immigrant is about to be released from custody.
Typically, agents take the individual into federal custody to initiate deportation proceedings.
