Hundreds Protest Maine Governor’s Support For Trans Sports Policy After Trump Calls Her Out

Around 500 Maine residents took to the streets to protest Gov. Janet Mills and her policy that allows men to compete in women’s sports over the weekend.

It came after her clash with President Donald Trump last month at the White House during the Governors Working Session.

The president was talking about his executive order that bans biological men from competing in women’s sports when he mentioned the state of Maine and its governor.

“Is Maine here? The governor of Maine? Are you not going to comply with it?” the president said.

“I’ll comply with state and federal law,” the governor responded.

“We are the federal law,” the president hit back.

“You better do it. Because you’re not going to get any federal funding at all if you don’t. And by the way, your population, even though it is somewhat liberal although I did very well there. Your population doesn’t want men playing in women’s sports. You better comply because otherwise you’re not getting any federal funding,” he said.

“We’ll see you in court,” the governor responded.

“Good, I’ll see you in court,” the president said.

“I look forward to that, that should be a real easy one. And enjoy your life after governor, because I don’t think you’ll be in elected politics,” he said.

The protest on Saturday was started by a Facebook event titled “March Against Mills” where State Rep. Katrina Smith said around 500 people attended.

It is a stark contrast to a protest last week in support of the governor that drew only dozens of supporters, The Daily Wire reported.

“A large protest organized by grassroots activists has developed at the State House in Maine in opposition to Maine Gov. Janet Mills continuing to force girls to play sports against male athletes,” investigative reporter Steve Robinson said on X with photos of the event.

“Maine citizens are deeply dissatisfied with the policies introduced by our Governor, Janet Mills,” the Facebook post said. “I believe strongly that her policies are not in alignment with the wishes and values of the majority of Mainers. The feeling of disconnect between the populace and leadership is palpable and widespread.”

“Various statistics underline rural-urban divide that has been exacerbated by the Governor’s decisions,” it said. “Example: keeping boys out of female sports.”
