Dems Continue to Support Election Denier Hakeem Jeffries for House Speaker

The Democrats are attempting to vote in Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries has Speaker of the House, despite his history of denying the legitimacy of elections. The final tally in the fourth round of voting on Wednesday saw 201 votes for Republican candidate Kevin McCarthy, while Jeffries had 212, and 20 for Rep.-elect Byron Donalds.

All Democrats voted for Jeffries in the previous five rounds, and no other Democrat has been nominated by the party to serve as Speaker, reports Fox News.

In 2018 after the Midterm elections, Jeffries wrote, “Is the North Carolina congressional seat the only one stolen by rouge Republican operatives? We may need a comprehensive criminal investigation to figure that out,” in a tweet.

In September 2021, Jeffries wrote, “Republicans hijacked the Judiciary by stealing two Supreme Court seats. And now they want us to respect illegitimate decisions from these people? Get lost.”

In February of 2022, Jeffries said, “the Supreme Court majority has zero legitimacy. Ghosts of the confederacy are alive and well.”

Jeffries also said that Trump will never be accepted by history as a legitimate president following the 2020 election. “the only person trying to steal the election is you.”

“The more we learn about the 2016 election the more illegitimate it becomes,” Jeffries wrote in a separate Twitter post.

In tweets from June 2017 to January 2018, Jeffries refused to acknowledge that Trump won the 2016 election.

“”Climate Change is NOT a hoax. But 45’s election may have been,” he said. Jeffries had previously said that Trump is not a racist, but is instead the “grand wizard of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,” saying instead that he has a history of “racially insensitive remarks.”

“We have a hater in the White House. A birther in chief. The grand wizard of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. One of the things that we’ve learned is that while Jim Crow may be dead, he’s still got some nieces and nephews that are alive and well,” Jeffries said at the MLK day event in New York, according to Politico.

He said the grand wizard remark was to point to Trump’s “troubling pattern of racially insensitive and outrageous, at times, behavior that spans not months, not years, but decades.”
