Civil rights attorney Ben Crump is facing a potential legal backlash after publicly calling a white pregnant nurse a “racist” after a video featuring her struggling with black men over a bike went viral.
After a lawyer representing a female New York City hospital worker threatened defamation lawsuits during a Fox News segment against those who had targeted her, Crump deleted his viral tweet.
Fox News noted that Crump responded to a video showing “a verbal altercation between a pregnant New York City physician assistant and multiple young black men before deleting it hours later after the segment aired and went viral on Twitter.”
“This is unacceptable!” he captioned the tweet with the video. “A white woman was caught on camera attempting to STEAL a Citi Bike from a young Black man in NYC. She grossly tried to weaponize her tears to paint this man as a threat. This is EXACTLY the type of behavior that has endangered so many Black men in the past!”
Crump neither followed up that tweet nor issued an apology, Fox News reported.

Following the video’s release, which triggered widespread outrage, Sarah Comrie, a physician assistant at Bellevue Hospital, was placed on leave. Comrie, who is six months pregnant, had recently completed a strenuous 12-hour shift before the footage went viral.
Her attorney, Justin Marino, has since strongly hinted that legal action is coming against those who may have defamed her.
“She’s been called a racist,” Marino told Fox News on Friday, adding that she has receipts for her rental of the City Bike she was prevented from taking. “She’s been called a thief. There are reasons defamation laws exist, and we plan to pursue that.”
“Around that time these individuals were claiming that that was their bike,” Marino said, “someone pushed the bike while she was on it, back into the docking station, so it locked again.”
He added that she hired him over fears she may lose her job.
Several media outlets, most of them on the left, also made allegations of racism and theft against Comrie, her lawyer noted.
