The state of Arizona is doing another slow count and is going to be the last state to be called.
But it was what Maricopa County, Arizona, Recorder Stephen Richer, who lost in the Republican primary, did that raised eyebrows.
Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake is locked in a tight contest with her Democrat opponent Rep. Ruben Gallego and the slow count has raised concerns among some of her supporters.
In the days before the election a series of polls had small advantages for both candidates but the Real Clear Politics average of polls had the Democrat ahead by 2.6 points heading into Election Day.
But that same poll of polls only had President-elect Donald Trump ahead by 3 percent in the state where he is currently ahead by 6.1 percent.
If the same anomaly was used for Lake it would give her the advantage over her Democrat opponent.
As of Saturday morning the Democrat candidate has 1,386,202 votes to the Republican’s 1,353,785 with 82 percent of the vote counted.
Former Arizona secretary of state election official Garrett Archer, who is now a data analyst for KNXV-TV estimated that another 472,000 ballots still have to be counted in Maricopa County in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
“Maricopa posted 70,429 ballots. Here is how the batch broke down. Lake 57 Gallego 41. The batch net Lake 11,633. Maricopa estimates 472,000 ballots remain uncounted,” he said.
As the count is ongoing Richer deleted his X account in what he said was a “promise” to himself.
“For four years, I tried to answer as many questions as possible and be as accessible as possible,” he said, The Phoenix New Times reported.
“I’ve paid my ticket. I stayed on to make sure I answered as many voter questions as possible through Election Day,” he said. “I get to do what makes me happy now.”
But him deleting his account has caused controversy and conspiracy theories on X.
“Yup. Something happened with the very corrupted Maricopa County recorder @stephen_richer. His account is now gone. Has Richer been arrested? What the hell is happening here in Maricopa? @KariLake, do you have any insight?” former WWE wrestler Val Venis said.
“Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer has deleted his personal X account. The ballot drops are at a stand still. What is going on?” Arizona state Republican Sen. Justine Wadsack said.
“They won’t tell us how many people have voted, much less how they voted. No transparency, no accountability,” Lake campaign co-chair Floyd Brown said.
AtlasIntel’s October 29 survey showed Lake and Gallego tied, but their most recent data from October 30-31 indicates that Lake has taken a slight lead over her Democratic challenger, securing 48.6 percent of the vote compared to Gallego’s 47.9 percent.
