Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has again shored up her bona fides as a Democratic socialist who prefers lawlessness over order, so long as it doesn’t affect her personally.
AOC took to social media to rip New York Mayor Eric Adams and officials at Columbia University for allowing the NYPD on campus to arrest mobs of anti-Semitic, anti-Israel protesters after some of them broke into and took over a university building.
Specifically, she responded to a post on X that referred to remarks made by Adams during a press conference earlier, in which he said the protest at Columbia University had been “co-opted by professional outside agitators.”
“If any kid is hurt tonight, responsibility will fall on the mayor and univ presidents,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “Other leaders and schools have found a safe, de-escalatory path. This is the opposite of leadership and endangers public safety.” She added that the situation was “a nightmare in the making.”
“I urge the Mayor to reverse course,” she added.

NYPD officers clad in riot gear conducted a raid on the campus and commenced the removal of anti-Israel protesters from Hamilton Hall, which the protesters had occupied in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Video footage captured anti-Israel protesters smashing the glass doors of Hamilton Hall, an academic building on campus. Additionally, they were observed carrying barricades into the building and hanging pro-Palestinian banners from the windows.
Hours after the building was seized, the university declared that it would limit access to its campus for the rest of the spring semester. Additionally, the university warned that students participating in the occupation would be subject to “expulsion.”
On Monday, Columbia University gave anti-Israel protesters until 2:00 p.m. to vacate the encampment on campus. In a statement on Tuesday, Columbia University said it was “left with no choice” after anti-Israel protesters occupied Hamilton Hall and “vandalized” and “blockaded” the building.
