Shamsud-Din Jabbar, identified by the FBI as the perpetrator of a New Year’s Eve terror attack in New Orleans, had a history of donating to Democratic politicians, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records.
FEC data shows that on May 7, 2020, Jabbar contributed $15 through ActBlue, listing his occupation as a “consultant” for “EY” (presumably Ernst & Young) and his address as Fresno, Texas. This donation was made to the Action PAC (now known as Grassroots Law PAC), which allocated $100,000 that election cycle to support Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and another $100,000 to Jaime Harrison, then a Senate candidate in South Carolina and now chair of the Democratic National Committee.
In 2014, Jabbar also donated $5 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, listing his role as a U.S. Army soldier and his address as Fayetteville, North Carolina, the Daily Wire reported.
Jabbar, reportedly a U.S.-born citizen, carried out the attack by ramming a truck into a crowd, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 people and injuries to over 35. Investigators found an ISIS flag in his possession.
The FBI said “He was driving a Ford pickup truck, which appears to have been rented and we are working to confirm how the subject came into possession of the vehicle.”
“An ISIS flag was located in the vehicle and the FBI is working to determine the subject’s potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations,” the FBI’s statement read.
“Weapons and a potential IED were located in the subject’s vehicle,” it added. “Other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter. The FBI’s Special Agent Bomb Technicians are working with our law enforcement partners to determine if any of these devices are viable and they will work to render those devices safe.”
