Kim Kardashian and other celebrities have condemned the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement actions, calling recent operations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “inhumane” in a Friday Instagram post.
“Growing up in LA, I’ve seen how deeply immigrants are woven into the fabric of this city. They are our neighbors, friends, classmates, coworkers, and family,” Kardashian wrote, according to Fox News. “No matter where you fall politically, it’s clear that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants. We can’t turn a blind eye when fear and injustice keep people from living their lives freely and safely.”
Her comments came as Los Angeles faces continued unrest following ICE raids that led to the arrest of hundreds of illegal immigrants, according to the Department of Homeland Security. “Many with a criminal history and criminal convictions” were detained, DHS stated.
Kardashian, who has worked with President Trump in the past on criminal justice reform, posted a series of messages criticizing how enforcement actions are being carried out.
“When we’re told that ICE exists to keep our country safe and remove violent criminals — great. But when we witness innocent, hardworking people being ripped from their families in inhumane ways, we have to speak up. We have to do what’s right,” she said.
In response to escalating protests, President Trump ordered National Guard units and later several hundred U.S. Marines into downtown Los Angeles to restore order. Demonstrations turned violent outside several ICE facilities and other federal buildings. California Governor Gavin Newsom has accused the federal government of inflaming tensions.
Despite the attacks on law enforcement personnel during the riots, Kardashian maintained that federal actions were driving fear. “There HAS to be a BETTER way,” she concluded in her post.
The reality TV star also shared footage of rapper Doechii criticizing Trump and ICE during her acceptance speech for Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the BET Awards. “There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order,” Doechii said. “Trump is using military forces to stop a protest, and I want y’all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us.”
Though Kardashian has now publicly rebuked Trump’s immigration policies, she has previously collaborated with his administration. In 2019, she visited the White House to promote criminal justice reform and praised the president’s efforts.
That same year, she successfully urged him to grant clemency to Alice Marie Johnson, a woman serving life without parole for non-violent drug offenses.
Other celebrities to voice their outrage include Mark Ruffalo, Eva Longoria, Kehlani, Pedro Pascal, and the aforementioned Doechii.
