Iranian dissidents are firing back at Whoopi Goldberg after her “offensive” claim that life for black Americans is somehow equal to living under Iran’s brutal dictatorship.
“Whoopi Goldberg’s comparison between being Black in America and living under Iran’s authoritarian regime is deeply misguided and dismisses the brutal realities faced by millions of Iranians,” Dr. Sheila Nazarian said to Fox News Digital.
“While racism is a serious and ongoing challenge in the U.S., comparing this to life under a totalitarian theocracy like Iran is not only inaccurate – it’s offensive to those who suffer daily under that regime. In Iran, the government controls nearly every aspect of life. People can be imprisoned, tortured, raped or even executed for peaceful protests, for criticizing the regime, or simply expressing their opinions online,” she said.
Goldberg caused a firestorm on Wednesday during a heated clash with fellow View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin.
Griffin had been laying out the horrifying human rights abuses committed by Iran’s Ayatollah regime — including executions of gay people and the imprisonment of women who simply step outside with their hair uncovered.
“Let’s not do that, because if we start with that, we have been known in this country to tie gay folks to the car. Listen, I’m sorry, they used to just keep hanging Black people,” Goldberg said.
“In the year 2025 in the United States, is nothing like if I step foot wearing this outfit into Iran right now,” Griffin responded.
“It is the same,” Goldberg said.
“I think it’s very different to live in the United States in 2025 than it is to live in Iran,” Griffin countered.
“Not if you’re black,” Goldberg retorted.
“Not for everybody,” cohost Sunny Hostin chimed in.
“Not if you’re black,” Goldberg said again.
“Guys, don’t go to Tehran. Do not, anyone at this table should go to Tehran,” Griffin said.
“Let me tell you about being in this country. This is the greatest country in the world. But yeah, I know that,” Goldberg said.
“I know that. And we all know that. But every day, we are worried. Do we have to be worried about our kids? Are our kids gonna get shot because they’re running through somebody’s neighborhood? These are, they are not big deals. And I don’t mean to say they’re not big deals to you because that’s not what I meant,” she said.
