White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre faced extreme scrutiny over President Biden’s mental and physical health following a recent mixup between French Presidents Macron, who is alive and the current French leader, and Mitterrand, who is dead.
During a campaign stop, Biden mistakenly referenced Mitterrand, who passed away nearly three decades ago, instead of Macron.

Fox News’ Peter Doocy raised concerns about Biden’s fitness for office, to which Jean-Pierre responded dismissively, saying, “I’m not even going to go down that rabbit hole with you, sir.”
When pressed further, she pointed to Biden’s recent public appearances across various states as evidence of his capability. However, questions persisted about Biden’s limited interviews compared to his predecessors, especially notable during events like hosting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the Super Bowl.
Jeane-Pierre defended Biden’s communication methods, describing them as “nontraditional” and implying that alternatives would be found. Notably, Biden declined Super Bowl interviews for two consecutive years, a move away from tradition.
Despite criticism, Jeane-Pierre maintained that Biden would find alternative means to connect with Americans.
