Authorities in Palm Beach County, Florida, have arrested two illegal immigrants in connection with the sex trafficking of a 15-year-old girl from New York City.
Detectives began investigating after receiving an anonymous tip about a missing teen, believed to have been involved in a human trafficking operation. The girl, missing since September 12, was located at a Motel 6 in Riviera Beach, according to a news conference held by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators used commercial advertisements to trace the minor’s location and initiated communication in an undercover effort to rescue her. Once found, the girl revealed that two individuals involved in her trafficking were staying just a few doors away, reports Fox News.
Authorities say the victim was recruited in New York City and transported to Florida, where she was forced to engage in sexual acts for money on at least ten occasions.
The suspects, identified as Yenire Karolina Pache Coleiton, a 33-year-old Colombian national, and Enyerbert Blanco, a 27-year-old Venezuelan national who had previously been deported, were arrested for their alleged involvement in the trafficking.
Sheriff Ric Bradshaw expressed frustration, particularly with Blanco’s criminal history. “How can he be out on bond for attempted murder in New York, then get arrested in Miami for drug trafficking, and still be out walking around? That’s unconscionable,” Bradshaw said.
Authorities believe the trafficking operation may have ties to a Venezuelan gang, though the investigation is ongoing.
“Clearly, the vetting system at the border isn’t working,” Bradshaw remarked. “The border’s not closed, and illegal immigrants are still coming in. This is the fourth case we’ve dealt with in Palm Beach County involving serious crimes committed by illegal immigrants.”
Bradshaw referenced three previous cases involving illegal immigrants in Palm Beach County, including the abduction and assault of an elderly woman, a Guatemalan national who acted inappropriately with a 10-year-old, and Venezuelan nationals who assaulted a 12-year-old.
“The families are angry, and rightfully so. These individuals should not have been here to commit these crimes,” Bradshaw stated.
Both Coleiton and Blanco have been placed on an ICE detainer and are being held without bond. “I can tell you one thing: they aren’t getting out of my jail,” the sheriff said. “They’re staying right where they are.”
This case remains under investigation as authorities work to gather more details on the trafficking network.
