A new set of polls indicate that former President Donald Trump is leading President Biden in five critical, toss-up swing states won by Biden in 2020.
According to surveys conducted by the New York Times, Siena College, and the Philadelphia Inquirer, Trump was found to be more popular than Biden among voters in the battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. On the other hand, Biden led in only one battleground state, Wisconsin, the New York Post reported.
Biden won all six of the battleground states in the 2020 election. If he wins Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in the 2024 election, he will secure his re-election. However, he must not lose any of the states he won in the previous election to maintain his victory.
The poll reveals issues like the cost of living, the economy, the Israel-Hamas war, and immigration cause dissatisfaction among Americans, raising concerns over Biden’s ability to improve their quality of life.
Nearly 70% of voters polled say the country’s political and economic systems need a major overhaul — and only 13% of Biden’s supporters believe he could bring such change in a second term.
Nearly 40% of polled Trump supporters cited the economy or cost of living as the election’s most critical issue, expressing skepticism toward the Biden administration’s claims of economic improvement.
Even among those who harbor reservations about Trump, many acknowledge him as the candidate capable of instigating necessary reforms.
The Post noted, citing the data, that Trump and Biden are neck and neck among 18-—to 29-year-olds and Hispanic voters, despite over 60% of this demographic casting their ballots for Biden in 2020.
Trump has managed to secure the support of 20% of African American voters, marking the highest level of support any Republican presidential candidate has garnered since the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
The former president’s rising popularity among young and nonwhite voters appears to have reshaped the electoral landscape, propelling him to the forefront in more diverse states like Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada, where Biden had previously found success, the report said.
