Former President Donald Trump claimed on Wednesday that if he were to be convicted on all counts resulting from what he referred to as the “Left’s witch hunts,” he could potentially face up to 561 years in prison.
In a fundraising email sent to his supporters, former President Donald Trump, who was indicted for the third time this year and second time by Department of Justice special counsel Jack Smith, stated: “… There’s only ONE MESSAGE someone can send by trying to throw you in jail for 6 lifetimes, and that’s FEAR,” according to Newsmax.
“The fear that if you vote for the ONLY candidate who puts you FIRST, you too could be harassed, indicted, and even ARRESTED by the current Marxist regime in Washington,” Trump added.
The most recent indictment involves four felony charges related to Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. As the leading contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, Trump has consistently contended that the indictments are politically motivated by the Biden administration.
These charges add to previous indictments against Trump in New York concerning alleged hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels and in Florida, related to his handling of presidential documents at Mar-a-Lago. In each case, Trump has pleaded not guilty.
“However, Trump might have underestimated the total number of years he could serve in prison if convicted on all charges,” Newsmax reported.
According to a report by Bloomberg on Tuesday, Trump is currently facing a total of 78 criminal counts, with four in the latest indictment, 34 in New York, and 40 in Florida. If convicted on all counts, he could potentially face 641 years in prison.
It is essential to note that the odds of Trump being convicted on every count are extremely high. Even in the event of a conviction, however, judges typically do not impose maximum sentences for each count and often allow defendants to serve sentences for multiple counts concurrently.
Critics have raised concerns about Trump’s Save America political action committee, which reportedly raised $40 million in the first half of 2023 to cover his legal expenses. However, the former president emphasized in his fundraising email that he understands not everyone can afford to donate, and he would not hold it against them.
“If you’re struggling right now due to Crooked Joe’s policies and the sinister Swamp creatures in Washington, please just hit the back button and go about your day,” Trump wrote. “In that case, I don’t want you to even think about donating!
“But if you can contribute even just $1, God knows how much our country needs patriots like YOU at this pivotal moment in history.”
