Trump Taps Andrew Giuliani to Lead Presidential Task Force for 2026 World Cup

President Donald Trump on Tuesday unveiled key appointments to the White House Task Force on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, selecting Andrew Giuliani to serve as Executive Director and naming Carlos Cordeiro as a senior advisor.

The 2026 World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico across 16 cities, with Trump underscoring the importance of preparing for the global event by placing experienced figures at the helm of the federal task force.

“I am proud to announce the appointment of Andrew Giuliani as the Executive Director of the President’s Task Force on the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” Trump said in a statement. “During my First Term, Andrew served as a Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director of the Office of Public Liaison, playing a key role in creating the system that enabled athletes from around the World to re-enter the United States during the Reopening of America in 2020.” Giuliani is the son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

In addition, Trump appointed former U.S. Soccer Federation president Carlos Cordeiro to serve in a senior advisory role.

“Additionally, Carlos Cordeiro will serve as Senior Advisor. Carlos is currently Senior Advisor to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), and was previously the President of the United States Soccer Federation, where he was Chairman of the winning bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” Trump added. “I know Andrew and Carlos will work tirelessly to make the 2026 FIFA World Cup an unprecedented success. Congratulations Andrew and Carlos!”

The tournament is set to take place in 11 U.S. cities: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, and the New York/New Jersey region. Canada will host matches in Toronto and Vancouver, while Mexico will welcome fans in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.

Trump had previously signed an executive order in March to create the task force, which is charged with coordinating federal efforts in support of the World Cup. According to the order, Giuliani’s role as Executive Director will be to “administer and execute the day-to-day operations of the Task Force,” and “report to the Chair through the Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Implementation.”

On the same day the order was signed, Trump received a personalized World Cup ball and the official 2026 tournament trophy during a ceremonial presentation.
