Trump Says China Already Cheating On Trade Deal: ‘So Much For Mr. Nice Guy’

President Donald Trump stated on Friday that China “HAS TOTALLY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT” with the United States, as his administration continues efforts to negotiate a broader trade deal with the communist nation.
Trump said that despite his efforts to “save” China from “a very bad situation,” the Chinese government failed to honor its agreement with the United States.
While he did not provide specific details on how China violated the deal, his top trade officials have accused Beijing of stalling negotiations and not following through on commitments made during the 90-day tariff truce reached earlier this month.
“Two weeks ago China was in grave economic danger! The very high Tariffs I set made it virtually impossible for China to TRADE into the United States marketplace which is, by far, number one in the World. We went, in effect, COLD TURKEY with China, and it was devastating for them. Many factories closed and there was, to put it mildly, ‘civil unrest.’ I saw what was happening and didn’t like it, for them, not for us. I made a FAST DEAL with China in order to save them from what I thought was going to be a very bad situation, and I didn’t want to see that happen,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
“Because of this deal, everything quickly stabilized and China got back to business as usual. Everybody was happy!” the president added. “That is the good news!!! The bad news is that China, perhaps not surprisingly to some, HAS TOTALLY VIOLATED ITS AGREEMENT WITH US. So much for being Mr. NICE GUY!”
The agreement reached earlier this month between the United States and China reduced Trump’s reciprocal tariff on Chinese goods to 10%, while maintaining a separate 20% tariff on fentanyl. In response, China lowered its retaliatory tariff on U.S. goods to 10%.
These adjusted tariff rates took effect on May 14 and are set to remain in place for 90 days as both countries continue negotiations toward a broader trade deal, the Daily Wire reported.
Trump’s Truth Social post accusing China of violating the trade agreement came just hours after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Fox News host Bret Baier that negotiations with China “are a bit stalled.” Bessent expressed hope that talks would resume “in the next few weeks.”
Similarly, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told CNBC that China has been dragging its feet on complying with the trade agreement—especially in regard to rare earth minerals. Greer noted that China had agreed to resume exports of those materials to the United States after previously restricting shipments in retaliation for Trump’s tariffs.
