President Donald Trump took the stage at the RNC in Milwaukee on Thursday to deliver a message of unity and share his first account of the assassination attempt on his life.
He walked out to Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA,” the same song that played when he made his first post-assassination attempt appearance.

“There was blood pouring everywhere, but in a certain way, I felt very safe because I had God on my side,” Trump said of the experience. He detailed how the bullet narrowly missed him: “The amazing thing is that prior to the shot, if I had not moved my head at that very last instant, the assassin’s bullet would have perfectly hit its mark, and I would not be here tonight, we would not be together.”
The crowd chanted “Yes you are!” in response to Trump’s statement that he was not supposed to be there.
What a moment!

“I stand before you in this arena only because of the grace of Almighty God,” Trump added, describing how providential reports claimed he cheated death. He recounted how the crowd initially thought he was dead and how he raised his arm to reassure them, shouting “Fight, fight, fight.”

Trump mourned the loss of Corey Comperatore, a volunteer fire chief who was killed during the assassination attempt. He also acknowledged the injured, including David Dutch, a 57-year-old Marine veteran, and 74-year-old James Copenhaver, both of whom have been stabilized after being critically wounded.
The audience observed a moment of silence for Comperatore, and Trump announced that $6 million has been raised for his family. “He lost his life selflessly acting as a human shield to protect [his wife and daughter] from flying bullets.”

Trump displayed Comperatore’s uniform and expressed his desire to unify the nation. He also outlined his policy agenda, addressing high inflation, illegal immigration, crime rates, and international conflicts. Highlighting the importance of the upcoming election, Trump showed the chart he was looking at when he narrowly avoided the fatal bullet. “Without that chart, I would not be here!”

He concluded with a call for excitement about the country’s future: “With great humility, I am asking you to be excited about the future of our country.”
