President Donald Trump is demanding that federal agencies account for their waste of American taxpayer dollars.
In a memorandum released Tuesday afternoon, the president said that “the government spends too much money on programs, contracts, and grants that do not promote the interests of the American people,” arguing that Americans have a right to see how the federal government is spending their “hard-earned wages.”
“For too long, taxpayers have subsidized ideological projects overseas and domestic organizations engaged in actions that undermine the national interest,” Trump said. “The American people have seen their tax dollars used to fund the passion projects of unelected bureaucrats rather than to advance the national interest.
“The American people have a right to see how the Federal Government has wasted their hard-earned wages,” he added.
Trump also directed the heads of executive departments and agencies to “take all appropriate actions to make public … the complete details of every terminated program, cancelled contract, terminated grant, or any other discontinued obligation of Federal funds.”
The move is part of Trump’s broader effort to fulfill his campaign pledge to dismantle the Deep State, root out government corruption, and remove rogue bureaucrats and entrenched career politicians, according to a White House fact sheet.
The Trump administration argues that under President Joe Biden, the federal government squandered taxpayer dollars on programs and contracts that served ideological interests rather than benefiting the American public.
As an example of this wasteful spending, the White House highlighted the Biden administration’s allocation of nearly $4.6 million to fund initiatives abroad promoting LGBTQ agendas, including pride parades and drag shows.
The White House also points to wasteful USAID grants, such as the $1.5 million sent to “advance diversity equity and inclusion in Serbia’s workplaces and business communities.”
