Federal authorities have identified a Jordanian illegal immigrant caught attempting to cross the U.S. northern border as a suspected terrorist, according to ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Seattle.
Mohammed Hasan Abdellatif Albana, 41, was apprehended near Lynden, Washington, as reported in a press release issued Wednesday. Authorities have not disclosed when or how Albana initially entered the country. A U.S. immigration official classified him as a “known or suspected terrorist.”
Albana was deported to Jordan on November 15 following immigration proceedings, ICE confirmed.
“ERO Seattle is committed to the removal of noncitizens who pose a risk to the national security of the U.S. Our officers perform these removals dutifully as a part of a federal law enforcement effort to protect Pacific Northwest Communities,” said Drew H. Bostock, ERO Seattle Field Office Director, reports the Toronto Sun.
During the Biden administration, Border Patrol agents have intercepted over 300 individuals on the terror watchlist attempting to cross the U.S. borders, both northern and southern, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data.
A Republican-led House Judiciary Committee report, initially obtained by Fox News Digital, reveals troubling details about these encounters. Between fiscal years 2021 and 2023, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released at least 99 individuals from the watchlist into American communities. Additionally, 34 others remain in DHS custody but have yet to be deported.
The interim report also states that immigration judges granted bond to at least 27 illegal immigrants on the watchlist. Furthermore, Border Patrol has encountered tens of thousands of individuals from countries that pose potential security risks. These include:
- 2,134 Afghan nationals
- 33,347 Chinese nationals
- 541 Iranian nationals
- 520 Syrian nationals
- 3,104 Uzbek nationals
The report highlights an alarming increase in “gotaways”—individuals who evade Border Patrol capture. Nearly 2 million have been recorded since the start of the Biden-Harris administration, raising concerns about potential terrorists slipping into the country undetected.
It also notes that Border Patrol has encountered individuals on the terror watchlist from 36 countries, many with active terror networks, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, Tajikistan, and Yemen.
These findings underscore growing apprehension about the adequacy of border security measures and their impact on national security.
