Survey: Majority Of Americans Trust Trump More Than Biased Media On Ukraine

An overwhelming majority of Republicans trust former President Donald Trump more than the news media for information on the Ukraine and Russia conflict, a new survey has found.

In a CBS News/YouGov poll conducted from April 9 to 12, which surveyed 2,399 American adults, findings revealed that 79 percent of Republicans expressed trust in Trump for information regarding the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

The survey also indicated that Republicans who placed their trust in Trump were less inclined to support providing military and financial assistance to Ukraine, in contrast to the 60 percent of Republicans who expressed trust in the Pentagon for information.

Fifty-six percent of Republicans indicated a preference for conservative news media outlets as their trusted source for information on the Ukraine and Russia conflict. Meanwhile, 33 percent expressed trust in journalists reporting from the war zone, and 27 percent stated trust in the State Department, Breitbart News reported, citing the survey.

A separate poll showed that 31 percent of “self-identified ‘MAGA’ Republicans”  said the United States should send more aid to Ukraine, while 69 percent said the U.S. “should not” do so. Meanwhile, 45 percent of “non-MAGA Republicans” said the U.S. should send aid to Ukraine, while 55 percent said it should not.

In February, the Senate approved a $95.3 billion emergency spending package to supply military aid to Ukraine and Israel. The package also included provisions for delivering food, water, and humanitarian assistance to individuals in Gaza.

The war in Ukraine, often referred to as the Russo-Ukrainian War or the War in Donbass, began in 2014 following Russia’s annexation of Crimea. It escalated into a conflict between Ukrainian government forces and Russian-backed separatists in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. The roots of the conflict lie in historical, political, and cultural tensions between Ukraine and Russia.

The Ukrainian government launched military operations to regain control over the separatist-held territories, leading to a protracted and bloody conflict. The war has been marked by ceasefire violations, casualties, displacement of civilians, and allegations of human rights abuses.

International efforts, including diplomatic negotiations and peace talks, have been made to resolve the conflict, but a lasting solution remains elusive.
