Psaki Flees for MSNBC Despite Saying Cable Media Is “Dying”

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is packing up for her new gig at MSNBC, though she has had less-than-kind words for cable news and dinosaur media.

Psaki said in May of 2021 that she was likely going to step down from her position at the White House to spend more time with her family. It’s since been reported that Psaki will be a contributor at MSNBC, and could even have her own show on the Peacock streaming service.

In February, however, Psaki said that the cable news industry was “dying.”

She made the comments in a conversation on the February 18 episode of “Literally! With Rob Lowe.”

“The minute the news media became ratings-driven, emotion and conflict drive story, the story drives ratings, so that squeezes out rational discourse and everybody now gets the news that they want to get,” said host Rob Lowe.

“Yeah,” Psaki responded. “You know, I think there’s such an interesting — so I’m going to give you an optimistic view on this right now, which is — cable news is dying, right? The ratings are dwindling, right? And there’s dwindling readership as well of a lot of national newspapers.”

“I’m not sure that’s the optimistic view, but I’m getting to a point,” she said
