The House Judiciary Committee is seeking to interview witnesses following revelations made by an IRS whistleblower regarding the federal prosecutor tasked with investigating Hunter Biden, the New York Post reports.
The whistleblower alleges that Delaware US Attorney David Weiss informed at least six witnesses in October 2022 that he lacked the authority to charge Hunter Biden outside of Delaware and was denied special counsel status.
Here’s what they aren’t saying:

This contradicts sworn testimony given by Attorney General Merrick Garland, according to IRS supervisory agent Gary Shapley.
Shapley testified on May 26, recounting the shocking statements made by Weiss during the October meeting with top IRS and FBI officials.
Shapley stated that Weiss informed them, “I’m not the deciding official on whether charges are filed,” and revealed that Biden-appointed D.C. U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves would not allow him to charge in his district.

This meant that Hunter Biden would not face tax charges related to foreign income and an alleged scheme to evade income taxes.
Shapley further claimed that the exclusion of specific years concealed material facts and sanitized the most substantive criminal conduct.
The witnesses identified by Shapley’s legal team include Baltimore FBI Special Agent in Charge Tom Sobocinski, Assistant Special Agent in Charge Ryeshia Holley, Shapley himself, and his boss IRS Special Agent in Charge Darrell Waldon.

The IRS whistleblower also named Shawn Weede and Shannon Hanson from Weiss’ office as attendees during the meeting.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has stated that if Shapley’s account is corroborated, Republicans will launch an impeachment inquiry into Attorney General Merrick Garland.
The House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep. Jim Jordan, is expected to call the alleged witnesses to testify as they investigate the perjury allegation against Garland and consider potential impeachment.

The FBI referred inquiries for Sobocinski and Holley to Weiss’ office, although the US attorney’s comments are directly under scrutiny. The witnesses mentioned in the October meeting have not responded to requests for comment.
During the same meeting, Weiss reportedly disclosed that he had sought special counsel authority from the Department of Justice (DOJ) but was denied. Instead, he was instructed to follow a process that involved another President Biden-appointed U.S. Attorney.
