President Biden Appears to Rest His Eyes During Summit with African Leaders In Angola

President Joe Biden was captured on video appearing to rest his eyes during a summit with African leaders in Lobito, Angola.

Seated among officials from various African nations, the 82-year-old president was seen closing his eyes and tilting his head while Tanzania’s Vice President Philip Mpango spoke. Biden kept his eyes closed for over a minute but was otherwise engaged, delivering remarks both before and after the brief incident.

The White House has not commented on the matter.

The moment quickly gained traction on social media, with critics speculating whether the president had fallen asleep.

“Joe Biden fell asleep during a meeting with African leaders today,” wrote Outkick founder Clay Travis on X. “He’s sharp as a tack though! Honestly, this feels intentional. Who puts an 82-year-old on a plane for a THREE DAY trip to Africa?! Three days! So dumb.”

Jake Schneider, formerly the rapid response director for President-elect Trump’s campaign, added, “Biden literally falls asleep during his own meeting in Africa. Who’s running the country?”

Radio host Ross Kaminsky echoed the sentiment, calling the incident “embarrassing” for the United States. “It’s incredible that our enemies haven’t challenged us more while we’re basically without a president,” Kaminsky shared on X.

Earlier at the summit, Biden unveiled a $1 billion humanitarian aid package aimed at supporting Africans displaced by severe droughts and food insecurity.

“The United States continues to be the world’s largest provider of humanitarian aid and development assistance,” Biden stated during his remarks in Angola. “That’s going to increase, you know, that’s the right thing for the wealthiest nation in the world to do. Today I’m announcing over $1 billion in new humanitarian support for Africans displaced from homes by historic droughts and food insecurity. We know African leaders and citizens are seeking more than just aid. You seek investment.”

This trip marks Biden’s first visit to Africa during his presidency. It comes amid ongoing recovery efforts in North Carolina following Hurricane Helene’s devastation in late September.

Last month, the White House requested $98 billion in additional disaster relief funding to support areas impacted by Hurricane Helene.
