‘Non-Binary’ Former Biden Official Charged With Felony Larceny In Airport Theft

Former Biden Administration Department of Energy (DOE) official Sam Brinton is expected to answer for charges of felony grand larceny after the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) Police Department confirmed the ownership of stolen clothing belonging to fashion designer Asya Khamsin of Tanzania after locating them during a warranted search of Brinton’s Maryland home.

According to Fox News, MWAA spokesperson Crystal Nosal told the outlet in a statement, “The MWAA Police Department can confirm we returned the victim’s property and police retained photos of the evidence for prosecution.” She added, “The case is still under adjudication, and we cannot release more detailed information.”

The Brinton case has held nationwide attention and served as a public embarrassment for the Biden administration after he was initially charged with felony theft for stealing a woman’s suitcase from the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport in October 2022.

In February, Khamsin turned to Fox News when she saw photos of Brinton wearing her custom-designed clothing in news coverage regarding his other thefts. She told reporters that those same 30 unique pieces of clothing went missing with her baggage at the airport on March 9, 2018. “I saw the images. Those were my custom designs, which were lost in that bag in 2018,” she told the network. “He wore my clothes, which were stolen.”

“I was thinking, ‘Who took my bag? Where is it?’ for a long time. Then I see images of the outfits, and I was so confused and upset,” said Khamsin, according to The New York Post.

Khamsin filed a report with Houston Police, where she and her husband currently reside. Houston PD subsequently referred the case to the FBI.

At the time, she said, “I don’t know if I would like the clothes back. The investigation is in good hands with the FBI. I’m waiting on them. They will do the right thing.”

Khamsin’s Attorney told Fox via email,  “The MWAA returned to Asyakhamsin various parcels of retrieved clothing after the search warrant was executed. These items were returned in sealed evidence bags.”

The designer has filed a civil lawsuit related to the theft against Brinton as well. She noted in her February interview that she had brought her designs to Washington to display, and the theft prevented her from doing so.

Thus far, in two separate cases in the states of Minnesota and Nevada, with grand larcenies in excess of a combined value of nearly $6,000, Brinton has managed to avoid jail time with both judges ruling a prison term unnecessary.
In the Nevada case, Brinton pleaded no contest and was sentenced to a 180-day suspended jail sentence, ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation and pay restitution of $3,670.74.  To avoid a jail sentence in Minnesota, he agreed to an adult diversion program, another mental health evaluation, writing a letter of apology to the victim with the return of the property, and three days of community service, according to the Post.
