Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, has officially filed for reelection in 2026, signaling that her political ambitions remain undeterred.

The California Democrat reportedly played a pivotal role in pressuring President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. According to Politico, Pelosi allegedly issued a direct threat to Biden, demanding he step aside.

“Nancy made clear that they could do this the easy way or the hard way,” one Democrat familiar with the private conversations said, according to Politico. “She gave them three weeks of the easy way. It was about to be the hard way.”

This intense behind-the-scenes pressure, coupled with damaging leaks reportedly linked to Barack Obama, culminated in Biden’s announcement on July 21 that he would not seek reelection.

In an interview with The New York Times, Pelosi brushed off a question about whether this would be her final term, stating, “I’m not here to talk about that.”

“I’m here to fight the fight so that we win in the next election,” she added. “I’ve probably considered each term to be my last at some point, but as fate would have it, the mission called.”

Despite the Democratic Party’s struggles following President Trump’s victory in 2024, Pelosi remains undeterred, seeking yet another term in office.

Pelosi previously served as House Speaker from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023. Should she win reelection and complete another full term, she will be 87 by the end of the 120th Congress.
