After a week of public clashes, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk issued an early-morning apology of sorts to President Donald Trump on Wednesday via his X platform.
Musk had recently deleted posts suggesting Trump’s name appeared in documents related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. His break with the president largely stemmed from opposition to the “One Big Beautiful Bill” currently advancing in the Senate. In a series of posts, Musk had urged voters to oppose any member of Congress who supported the legislation.
In his Wednesday morning post, however, he voiced regret for how far he’d taken his attacks: “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”
Despite clashing with President Trump over the budget bill, which Musk argued would undermine the progress made through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative to reduce federal waste and bureaucracy, he emphasized that he still aligns with Trump on several other key issues.
He frequently reposted or positively commented on posts from Trump or his team about the administration’s efforts to address the rioting in Los Angeles County.
Musk also reposted Trump’s statement condemning California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Democratic Mayor Karen Bass for their inability to restore order after violent protests and riots broke out, during which rioters specifically targeted law enforcement and federal agents.
Many people started to question whether a reconciliation between the two billionaires was possible, as Musk expressed his support for Trump’s actions in California, and the SpaceX CEO’s early-morning apology seemed to reinforce that sentiment.
“Hat tip for fixing a wrong,” former CIA officer Bryan Dean Wright posted. “The country is better for it.”
