Mother of Texas Teen Killed By Illegal immigrant Says Trump Win Brought Her to Tears: ‘Biden Failed Us’

The mother of a 16-year-old Texas girl who was brutally murdered last December, allegedly by an illegal immigrant from Mexico, says President-elect Trump’s victory last week brought her to tears.

“When I heard the news in the morning that he won, I teared up,” Jacqueline Medina told Fox News Digital. “I teared up because I thought about my daughter. The Biden-Harris administration failed us terribly.”

Medina’s “beautiful, loving, bubbly, funny” daughter, Lizbeth Medina, was killed on December 5, 2023. The man charged with her murder, 24-year-old Rafael Govea Romero, faces trial next month for capital murder.

“With [Trump] winning, I’m really hoping that there are stricter laws so we can protect our kids, our children, our families, our loved ones from this happening to them again,” Medina said.

Though she knows new policies won’t bring Lizbeth back, Medina hopes they will “prevent this from happening to another child.”

On the day of her daughter’s murder, Medina had left their apartment early for work. Lizbeth, who was supposed to head to school and later practice with her cheer team for a Christmas parade, never made it.

Romero, who had a prior criminal record, was on probation at the time of his arrest for Lizbeth’s murder, according to Edna Police Chief Rick Boone. He was reportedly on probation for a 2022 burglary in Schulenburg, about 60 miles from Edna. Police suspect Romero may also be connected to a burglary at Lizbeth’s home a month before her death.

Neither Medina nor Lizbeth knew Romero, but Medina recalled their house being burglarized on November 13. Investigators believe Romero may have been involved in the break-in and stalked Lizbeth before allegedly killing her.

“My whole life was my daughter,” Medina said. “And I’m still finding it very difficult to find myself, to find what direction I need to take in life. The only thing right now that is keeping me strong is the fact that we still need to get justice for her.”

Medina has also been working to raise funds for a scholarship in Lizbeth’s name, supporting cheerleaders in Edna, and contributing to child advocacy initiatives.

Romero’s trial is set for December 3 in Jackson County, Texas.

Medina is also closely following the trial of Jose Ibarra, another illegal immigrant accused of murdering Georgia college student Laken Riley in February. “I will be keeping Riley’s family in my thoughts,” Medina said.
