Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), will reportedly give his endorsement to an impeachment inquiry of incumbent Democrat President Joe Biden on Thursday in a closed-door meeting of the House GOP Caucus.

As reported by Punchbowl News, McCarthy will tell his caucus that the inquiry is the “logical next step” in the ongoing three-committee investigation of Biden and his son Hunter’s international business dealings. During the meeting, the Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means Committees will present their findings so far led by Chairmen James Comer (R-KY) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) respectively.

The outlet took note that the Speaker is expected to announce that Comer and Jordan have discovered information that requires the House to formally initiate an impeachment inquiry. The inquiry will provide the necessary congressional subpoena power to force compliance with financial records requests. Punchbowl, however reported that neither committee has reported direct evidence demonstrating that the President personally profited from Hunter’s foreign business deals.

According to Newsmax, some Republicans in the House such as Reps. Don Bacon (R-NE) and Ken Buck (R-CO) expressed skepticism about the necessity of an impeachment inquiry. Conversely as reported by Conservative Brief, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) cautioned McCarthy on Tuesday that he would be removed from the Speaker’s dais if he fails to move forward with a vote to launch the inquiry. On both Truth Social and in an interview with Fox News Radio’s Todd Starnes, he suggested that the Speaker could be removed if he resists the party’s move toward impeachment.

“I worked very hard in January to develop a toolkit for House Republicans to use in a productive and positive way,” Gaetz posted on Truth Social. “I don’t believe we’ve used those tools as effectively as we should have.”

“We’ve got to seize the initiative,” he added. “That means forcing votes on impeachment. And if @SpeakerMcCarthy stands in our way, he may not have the job long.”

Speaking with Starnes he observed that the American people have become “disillusioned with House Republicans right now.” He warned, “They think that we have not put up a substantial battle to defeat the worst elements of this Biden administration.”

Punchbowl News reported that Gaetz “plans to take to the House floor today to take McCarthy to task for his performance during this Congress. He’ll then hold a 12:45 p.m. press call about his ‘vision’ for the House ‘moving forward.’ We’ll see if Gaetz, who loathes McCarthy, follows through.”
