To say that liberals have not taken the election victory of President-elect Trump in stride would be a massive understatement.
Many have watched the unhinged responses on shows like “The View” and various late night programs hosted by the likes of Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and others.
And videos of liberal meltdowns have flooded X, formerly Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and every platform on the Internet.
But for some progressives the victory of the MAGA machine has driven them to seek therapy to cope, The New York Post reported.
“It’s a perfect storm for New York therapists,” Manhattan psychologist Chloe Carmichael, said to The Post. “It’s a repeat of 2016, where a lot of people feel really scared and traumatized and angry.”
The psychologist estimated that she has seen around a 15 percent increase in calls since the election.
But she said that the president-elect clinching his victory early on Wednesday and securing the popular vote was a silver lining for some.
“People were terrified about facing days and weeks of uncertainty,” she said. “The clarity can be kind of a saving grace.”
Alyson Cohen, a New York based psychotherapist, said that she awoke to an avalanche of texts on Wednesday after Trump’s landslide victory against Vice President Kamala Harris.
She said that some of the people who texted her are “afraid for their futures and that of their children.”
“I’ve even already heard [from] some female clients who say they are now second guessing having children out of fears for their health as it relates to pregnancy-related medical care,” the therapist said.
Psychotherapist and relationship expert Lisa Brateman said that it is even more tenuous for couples who did not vote the same way.
“If a woman was saying ‘What about my rights as a woman?’ and her boyfriend or husband voted for Trump, it felt like a personal unwillingness to understand them,” the therapist said.
She said that after a meeting with couple who did not vote the same way last week the Democrat voter asked for an extra session.
“She’s in shock, she’s trying to navigate her emotions . . . and needing to process with somebody who really understands the pain she’s feeling,” the therapist said.
“When the other person voted for someone else, they’re not feeling that pain — they’re jubilant,” she said.
