President-elect Donald Trump has selected Karoline Leavitt, his campaign’s national press secretary, to serve as White House Press Secretary.
“Today, the 45th and 47th President of the United States Donald J. Trump announced that Karoline Leavitt will serve as White House Press Secretary. Karoline was the Trump Campaign National Press Secretary and previously served in the Trump White House as Assistant Press Secretary,” Trump said in a statement.
“Karoline Leavitt did a phenomenal job as the National Press Secretary on my Historic Campaign,” Trump continued. “I am pleased to announce she will serve as White House Press Secretary. Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator. I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium, and help deliver our message to the American People as we, Make America Great Again.”
At just 27 years old, Leavitt will be the youngest person to hold the position, surpassing Ron Ziegler, who was 29 when he served as press secretary during the Nixon administration from 1969 to 1974. She is also a wife and mother.
Charlie Kirk praised the decision, stating, “Excellent choice. She’s tough, fair, and knows how to keep the dishonest press in check. Congratulations!”
During the campaign, Leavitt played a pivotal role as Trump’s national press secretary. She actively defended the President-elect from attacks by the Harris campaign and other Democratic opponents.
“They forced him to take a mug shot. They tried to remove his name off of the ballot. They forced him to sit in a dirty courthouse for six weeks. Two people tried to kill him, for goodness sake,” Leavitt remarked last week on Fox & Friends following the election. “And the American people see, in Donald Trump, a clear leader who even in the darkest of times is going to lift his fist in the air and say, ‘fight, fight, fight’ for this country.”
“It’s clear that the American people believe President Trump is the best candidate to preserve our democracy,” she said. “And it shows the Democrats’ message in these final weeks of the campaign—that he’s this alleged threat to democracy—just didn’t work in the eyes of the American people.”
