Jon Voight Speaks Out About Guns Following Uvalde Massacre

Legendary actor Jon Voight has turned heads with a pair of videos he posted this week in which he lent his view on gun ownership following the tragic murders of 19 children and two adults at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

In the videos, Voight suggested that the constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms should only come with some new qualifications.

“It’s not about Left, Right, guns, no guns,” he said. “This is about brains that are dysfunctioning. This is mental. This is not about healthy human beings serving the country with arms to bear, or even the right of this Constitution for bearing arms.

“It is a right to use arms with proper purpose to defend one’s safety. We must not allow mental illness to take away our right to bear arms. This is about trusting the Constitution, our rights, our reason,” he continued.

“We’re living now in a world that has no remorse for wrongdoings because we are being led by the worst in office,” Voight added. “We must identify every individual for their credentials, for their mental capacity to bear arms. There should be proper qualifications for gun ownership and proper testing. One should only own a gun if they are qualified and schooled.”

According to reports, the shooter — who we won’t name to deny him the notoriety — legally purchased two rifles, at least one of which he used to commit the murders, legally after completely the proper federal firearms forms. Also, the shooter managed to pass an FBI background check, which is standard procedure when purchasing any firearms through registered firearms dealers.

Had the shooter been saddled with a history of violence or had a criminal record, or if he had been convicted of any felonies, those convictions would have shown up on the background check.

However, as The Daily Wire reports:

There were certainly indications that the shooter had a history of violence that included making threats, hurting animals, and attacking people. He also showed signs of psychiatric issues in the way that he related to people by flipping from one extreme to the other, according to those who knew him. He also reportedly said that he had “fun” cutting his face with a knife.

Also, a GOP lawmaker from Texas claimed that the shooter was in trouble with law enforcement four years ago, when he and another teen allegedly planned to commit a “Columbine-style” school shooting when they were seniors. But Uvalde police have denied that the shooter who committed last week’s heinous attack was one of the two arrested previously.
