White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre does not want to answer for the lie she and President Joe Biden told about not pardoning Hunter Biden.
She was confronted by several reporters on Friday, her first press briefing since the president pardoned his son, and she was rankled by the questions she was peppered with.
“One of the other things he often says is voters should “trust his word as a Biden.” Should they still?” CBS reporter Ed O’Keefe said before the press secretary said “Yes. The president is the president.”
“It was a pretty big public pronouncement that he wasn’t going to do this,” O’Keefe said.
“I hear you and I understand. but the president wrestled with this, he truly did. I called out the ‘US Gov’ [sic] poll where 64% of Americans — that’s not a small number — agree with the president’s decision to pardon his son, and that gives you a tiny window into where the American people are,” Jean-Pierre responded.
“He sidestepped a judge and a jury’s decisions on this case involving his son, he criticized the political nature of the prosecution, the next president has spent the last several years disparaging the Justice Department and the FBI,looking at this, why should any American continue to have confidence in the justice system?” the reporter asked.
“The president does have confidence in the American justice system, and he said that in his statement. He certainly continues to have confidence in the Department of Justice,” the press secretary said after the president said that the Department of Justice unfairly prosecuted his son.
“They single out incidents that involved them of their family,” O’Keefe countered, highlighting the similarities.
“I don’t think those two things are the same. I just don’t. They are not the same, and I think the American people understand that. I do think they believe and understand that they are not the same,” said Jean-Pierre.
“What the president’s son had to go through—and what we heard from legal experts — former U.S. attorneys general — have made clear that this would not — this would not be the situation. And I think that’s important to note as well. They have been very clear on this. We’ve heard from any legal experts. Former U.S. attorneys from across the country have all agreed that virtually no one would be federally prosecuted under these facts,” she said.
“I’ve talked about these facts regarding the gun charges and tax cases in Hunter Biden’s case, and so we should take their word for it,” she added.
