President Joe Biden has issued a stern warning to Iran, stating that any assassination attempt on Donald Trump would be regarded as an act of war. This follows reports that more than half a dozen former aides to Trump have been targeted by Iran in retaliation for their involvement in the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani. Trump himself has also been the target of two recent assassination attempts.
According to Fox News, Biden has instructed his National Security Council to convey to Iran that any attempt on Trump’s life would prompt a strong response from the United States. This development comes as Trump seeks enhanced military-grade protection.
The U.S. government has gone to great lengths to protect Trump aides who are now potential targets due to their role in the drone strike that killed Soleimani. Trump’s camp has even requested military aircraft capable of targeting and shooting down missiles.
National Security Council spokesperson Sean Savitt condemned the threats, stating, “We consider this a national and homeland security matter of the highest priority, and we strongly condemn Iran for these brazen threats.” He also confirmed that “appropriate agencies are continuously and promptly providing the former president’s security detail with evolving threat information.” President Biden has also ensured that the Secret Service receives every resource necessary to protect the former president.
Last month, when questioned by Fox News about whether an attempt on Trump’s life would be considered an act of war, Biden did not provide a direct answer. Meanwhile, Trump and his aides involved in the Soleimani operation have been subjected to death threats. Over the summer, Iran reportedly hacked the Trump campaign and tried to send the stolen information to the Biden-Harris campaign.
In a July 13 assassination attempt, Thomas Matthew Crooks positioned himself on a nearby rooftop to take a sniper shot at Trump, narrowly missing and hitting his ear instead. Another attempt occurred while Trump was playing golf at his West Palm Beach course, where Ryan Routh reportedly waited for nearly 12 hours to target the former president. An AK-47-style weapon was found at the scene after Routh fled.
