A 25-year-old illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic has been charged in the brutal killing of a Massachusetts sandwich shop owner, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed.
Eric Dionida German-Pena, who entered the U.S. illegally near the Texas border in September 2022 under then-President Joe Biden, is accused of murdering Ilias “Louie” Mavros, the owner of Crazy Buzzy’s Roast Beef and Seafood in Lynn.
“Eric Dionida German-Pena will have his day in court, but he stands accused of a very serious and disturbing crime against a member of our Massachusetts community,” said Patricia Hyde, acting field director for ICE’s Boston Enforcement and Removal Operations. She added that ICE has placed an immigration detainer on German-Pena with the Lynn Police Department.
German-Pena is being held without bail while awaiting trial. “The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has charged him with murder, and with the cooperation of the Lynn District Court, we intend to take him into ICE custody after he has paid his debt to society,” Hyde stated.
Authorities discovered Mavros tied up in his basement with fatal head injuries, reportedly the result of a violent home invasion robbery. A longtime Lynn resident, Mavros was known for his generosity and had previously co-owned Christina’s Pizza in Salem with his father. An online obituary described him as a caring son who had spent nearly a decade looking after his ill mother until her passing last year.
“Louie was an extraordinary individual, and his absence will be profoundly felt,” read a statement on Crazy Buzzy’s Facebook page. The restaurant remains open in his memory.
The murder occurred as President Donald Trump has launched a renewed crackdown on criminal illegal immigrants, with thousands of arrests ordered across the U.S. in recent weeks.
