A Venezuelan illegal immigrant is accused of sexually assaulting his employer’s 14-year-old daughter while residing in the basement of their Colorado home, according to authorities and media reports.
Jesus Alberto Pereira Castillo entered the United States illegally through El Paso, Texas, in September 2023 and was later released by Border Patrol, Homeland Security sources told the New York Post. He was apprehended in Denver on Tuesday.
This arrest came shortly after Denver Mayor Mike Johnston made controversial remarks predicting a “Tiananmen Square moment” if federal immigration officials attempt to enforce President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed mass deportations.
“More than us having DPD [Denver Police Department officers] stationed at the county line to keep them out, you would have 50,000 Denverites there,” Johnston stated in an interview with Denverite. “It’s like the Tiananmen Square moment with the rose and the gun, right? You’d have every one of those Highland moms who came out for the migrants. And you do not want to mess with them.”
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office provided details of the alleged incident, reporting that deputies responded to a residence in south Jefferson County on August 29, 2024, at approximately 11:00 p.m.
“At around 10:30 that evening, Castillo forced himself on the 14-year-old daughter of the homeowner, sexually assaulting her. He left the residence before deputies arrived,” the Sheriff’s Office stated.
After an extensive investigation lasting several weeks, Castillo was apprehended “without incident.”
Sources disclosed to the New York Post that Castillo had been previously arrested in May 2024 for alleged possession of tools used for forgery and counterfeiting, as well as larceny. Following the reported sexual assault, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued a detainer on Castillo.
He was set to make his first court appearance on Wednesday.
