Republican Rep. Mary Miller of Illinois is set to introduce a resolution on Tuesday to designate June as “Family Month,” aiming to counter what she views as the dominance of LGBTQ ideology during the month.
The resolution is backed by several parental rights and socially conservative organizations, including Moms for America, the American Family Project, the Family Research Council, the Eagle Forum, and others. It is co-sponsored by Republican Representatives Michael Cloud, Harriet Hageman, Barry Moore, Diana Harshbarger, Randy Weber, Troy Nehls, Mark Harris, and Michael Rulli.
“The American family is under relentless attack from a radical leftist agenda that seeks to erase truth, redefine marriage, and confuse our children,” Miller told The Daily Wire. “By recognizing June as Family Month, we reject the lie of ‘Pride’ and instead honor God’s timeless and perfect design. If we truly want to restore our nation, we must stand united to protect and uphold the foundation upon which it was built — the family.”
The Daily Wire first reported on the resolution.
The resolution comes as President Donald Trump’s administration continues to push back forcefully against gender ideology. The president has signed multiple executive orders prohibiting transgender procedures for minors, barring biological males from participating in women’s sports and entering female-only spaces, and restricting the teaching of sexual or gender-related content in schools.
On Monday, The Daily Wire reported that the Department of Education has designated June as “Title IX Month” to mark the 53rd anniversary of the landmark legislation, a clear departure from the Biden administration’s tradition of celebrating “Pride Month.”
Miller’s resolution is a strong rejection of the left-wing ideological gender principles pushed by ‘progressive’ activists over the last decade. It goes on to portray the traditional nuclear family as “the foundation of a healthy society”. It states that mothers and fathers “play a crucial and irreplaceable role in the upbringing of their children.”
It also states that the “best environment for children to thrive is a home with a married mother and father.” It also notes the high divorce rate in the United States and the rise in young people delaying or forgoing marriage and family, pointing out that “many tax and welfare policies encourage cohabitation and penalize couples for getting married.”
“The birth rate in the United States has fallen below the replacement level needed to replenish the population and sustain the economy,” the resolution notes.
“The month of June was first declared as Pride Month by President Bill Clinton in 1999 and has been done so by Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, rejecting the importance of marriage and family,” the resolution reads, noting that since then, “Americans are inundated with perverse Pride Month displays and events throughout the month of June that denigrate the nuclear family.”
At the same time, the resolution argues, Americans who” hold to a traditional view of marriage and family are often disparaged,” and “the decline of marriage and family has corresponded to a rise in crime, drug abuse, and other social ills.”
The resolution also quotes President John Adams, who wrote to the Massachusetts Militia in October 1798 that ‘‘Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
American civilization depends on the “continuation of traditional marriage and family,” the resolution states.
