As per WESH-TV, the student who is accused of violently attacking a teacher’s aide is considered a special needs student. School surveillance footage depicts the 17-year-old student, who stands at 6-foot-6-inches and weighs 270 pounds, running towards the teacher’s aide, pushing her to the ground, and then repeatedly punching and kicking her.
The student continues to attack the employee for several seconds until a group of individuals intervenes and forcibly removes him, the report added. Video shows the teacher’s aide was on the floor for several minutes before getting up.
As per WESH, Sheriff Rick Staly stated that the teacher’s aide could have been killed during the violent attack by the student.
“This could have been a homicide,” Staly said. “When you push people down like that, they hit their head, you never know the outcome.”
The body camera footage depicts the suspect hurling profanity, “F–k you,” at one of the deputies before his arrest. In the video, the suspect is also heard saying, “I don’t want to go to jail.”
The arrest report states that the student said he “will beat her up every time she takes away his game,” according to FOX 35, referring to the teacher’s aide.
The teacher’s aide was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and was later released. She sustained significant bruising and broken ribs, according to reports.
“I believe she will be out of work for at least several weeks, if she even plans on returning,” the sheriff’s office wrote.
“The actions of this student are absolutely horrendous and completely uncalled for,” Staly said. “We hope the victim will be able to recover, both mentally and physically, from this incident. Thankfully, students and staff members came to the victim’s aid before the SRDs could arrive. Our schools should be a safe place – for both employees and students.”
