Former President Donald Trump has promised that if he is elected he will add Tesla and Space X CEO to a new department named the Department Of Government Efficiency.
The Department, with the acronym DOGE, which is the name of a crypto currency favored by the tech giant, would be tasked with eliminating government financial waste.
Opart of that would be getting rid of thousands of government jobs that the department determines are not needed.
But the CEO said he does not want to be cruel or ruin anyone’s life so they employees would receive generous severance packages that give them plenty of time to find new work.
“We will reduce a lot of government headcount, but we’re going to give very long severances. Like two years, or something like that,” the CEO said.
“Look, just go do something else is what we’re going to say. And you’ll get paid for two years. So, you’ve got a lot of time to go and figure out something else to do,” he said.
“The point is not to be cruel or to have people not be able to pay their mortgage or anything. We just have too many people in the government sector, and they could be more productive elsewhere,” he said at an event that was held in Philadelphia on October 18.
Former President Trump announced on Thursday that he plans to establish a new Cabinet position focused on reducing the cost of living if he is elected to a second term in the White House.
He made this announcement as part of a “new step” aimed at providing “emergency price relief to all Americans” while speaking at a rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico, just days ahead of Election Day, the Daily Wire noted.
“I will create a new Cabinet position for a senior member of my administration who will be tasked exclusively with doing everything in the federal government’s power to reduce the cost of living,” Trump said.
Trump also said he would sign an executive order on “day one” that would direct every federal agency to “immediately remove every single burdensome regulation driving up the cost of goods.”
