DNC Teetering On ‘Chaos’ Amid Push to Oust Vice Chair Hogg

There is chaos in the Democrat Party as vice chair David Hogg may be finished in that position.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) voted to invalidate the elections of two leaders, Hogg and Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, and now infighting is threatening to crush the party, The Hill reported.

Hogg has said that the DNC called for a new vote on Monday because they want to push him out after he threatened to primary older Democrats.

Party officials have said that was not the case.

“I hate to be the party of chaos when the GOP is doing such a good job of it,” Marj Halperin, a Democratic consultant, said. “This isn’t the priority voters want the DNC to be focused on.”

The controversy started in February when Hogg threatened to use his PAC, Leaders We Deserve, to primary Democrats in safe districts who he believes are not doing an effective job.

“The reality is you should not be worried about this if you are a member of Congress if you are effective like [Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.)], for example, or [Rep.] Nancy Pelosi [D-Calif.],” he said to The Hill in February. “What we are looking at is places where the elected official has not done a great job being effective against Trump.”

But this month, one of the candidates who lost in the DNC election said that the rules violated the party’s procedure and demanded a new vote, and the DNC voted in favor of the effort.

Democratic strategist Max Burns said he believes people will see it as the DNC pushing out Hogg, but he said that the bigger issue is that the DNC’s rules are confusing.

“The reality is that the DNC’s rules have clearly become so confusing that not even senior officials have any idea how to understand them,” Burns said.

“The result is that it just becomes such an unattractive proposition for people to get involved with,” he said. “It hurts the party on an infrastructural level when your operation looks this scattershot.”

But Adam Green, the co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign, said that he believes Hogg is being targeted.

“That’s the tragedy of Ken Martin picking a fight with David Hogg,” the progressive said.

“Most people’s impression of the Democratic Party is that it’s defending a broken status quo and failing to shake up a broken political and economic system,” he said.
