DeSantis Implores Men to ‘Meet Your Responsibilities’ As He Cites Fatherlessness for Host of Current Social Problems

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is blaming missing fathers in a growing number of American households as being responsible for range of today’s social ills.
In an interview Wednesday, the GOP governor told host Dave Rubin, “If you look at all the different problems society could deal with, a huge number of them are rooted in kids growing up without having a father in the home.”
“Part of it is sending a message. Men, meet your responsibilities. You have a responsibility” to be around to raise their children, the governor added.
In addition, DeSantis spoke about this governing and leadership philosophy, adding that from the moment when he took office, he was determined to make life better for Floridians and to make a difference in his state.
“There are people who get involved in elected office to be able to enjoy the accouterments of office, to be able to have a title. And then there are people who get in because they actually want to do something and make a difference. I’m the latter,” DeSantis said, as the live audience cheered its approval.
“When you stand up and you stand in that fire and you fight back for people, man, they will have your back. They will support you. That’s what we’ve shown in the state of Florida,” DeSantis told Rubin.

DeSantis also spoke about his decisions to buck the majority of other governors during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the man at the center of policy, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who pushed for continued lockdowns as well as school and business closures.
“We were the first big state to give every parent the ability to send their kid to school in-person way back in 2020,” he said.
“Fauci opposed us having kids in school. He opposed what we were doing. When we had businesses open and protecting people’s jobs and were having these events, he opposed us every step of the way,” said the governor. “That wasn’t based on data because the schooling was obvious, that you needed to have the kids in school. It was based more on ideology.”
Rubin made headlines in December when he announced he was moving out of the “dystopian nightmare” of California for Florida. At the time, he personally thanked Golden State Gov. Gavin Newsom for making Rubin’s decision to leave easier.
The host also tagged DeSantis in his announcement, referring to his new home as “the free state of Florida,” and noting he would, “See you soon.”
