Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sees how desperate the Democrats have become and he believes they are playing a “dangerous game” with their rhetoric that he believes could cause violence.
He spoke to Fox News host Jesse Watters on his show “Jesse Watters Primetime,” where he said that the comparisons of former President Donald Trump to some of the most evil and authoritarian dictators in history and not accurate and dangerous.
“You look at what they’ve done from the beginning. Even more recently, their closing arguments seem to be that Donald Trump is like Hitler, like a fascist. He was president for four years,” the Florida governor said. “What they are doing is really stirring up, I think, a lot of division in this country.”
DeSantis added that the Democrats telling voters that “American democracy will end if Donald Trump is president” is dangerous and could lead to the political violence they say they condemn.
But he also said that he believes he knows the reason that Democrats are using this tactic.
“You can see why you have some of the problems we have and some of the things that have been stirred up amongst the populace. I think it’s a dangerous game that they are playing. I think it is born out of desperation. I don’t think it’s going to work,” he said.
In her campaign’s closing speech this week Democrat presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, used that same rhetoric against her opponent.
“Nearly 250 years ago, America was born when we wrested freedom from a petty tyrant,” the Democrat said. “Across the generations, Americans have preserved that freedom, expanded it, and in so doing, proved to the world that a government of, by, and for the people is strong and can endure.”
“They did not struggle, sacrifice, and lay down their lives, only to see us cede our fundamental freedoms, only to see us submit to the will of another petty tyrant,” she said.
“This is someone who is unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed with grievance, and out for unchecked power, trying to keep the American people divided and afraid of each other,” she said of the former president. “That is who he is.”
