Senate Minority Leader and New York Sen. Charles Schumer is a massive hypocrite and he showed it when he was confronted by CNN chief congressional correspondent Manu Raju.
It happened on Monday when the CNN reporter approached the Senate minority leader about his anemic 17 percent approval rating in recent polls.
“There was a poll out today that has your approval rating lower than any other congressional leader, at 17 percent,” the CNN reporter said.
“Are you concerned that you may be a liability for your party?” he said.
Schumer brushed aside the polls as if they did not matter.
“Polls come and go,” he said. “Our party is united. We’re on our front foot. We’re stepping forward and going after Trump, and having real success.”
But just minutes before, during the same press conference, he hammered President Donald Trump on some new polls numbers that he said showed that Americans are not supporting him the way they were weeks ago.
“The polls this week show Trump has the lowest 100-day approval rating since they started polling 80 years ago. The lowest! Even worse, 72% of Americans think it’s likely that Trump’s handling of the economy will walk us directly into a recession,” he said to reporters.
It mirrored what he said when he spoke in the Senate chambers.
“It’s been 100 days of hell for American families, for our economy, and for our democracy. The start of Donald Trump’s second term has been the worst start of any president in modern times. He now has the lowest approvals any president has seen through his first 100 days, since they started polling 80 years ago,” the senator said.
“Tomorrow night, Senate Democrats will take to the floor to highlight the disaster of Donald Trump’s first 100 days. We will expose his broken promises. We will expose his lies. We will expose the ways he is threatening democracy. So, we will take to the floor and expose Donald Trump as a disastrous president on his first 100 days. We ask America to listen,” he said.
