CNBC host Joe Kernen challenged former White House director of communications Anthony Scaramucci on Friday regarding his public criticism of his former boss, President-elect Donald Trump.
Scaramucci has issued multiple warnings and critiques about Trump, labeling him a fascist and accusing him of speaking about non-white immigrants in a “dehumanizing kind of way.” Kernen pressed Scaramucci on these remarks, suggesting that he was contradicting his own beliefs to back Trump’s unpopular opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, the Daily Caller reported.
“The rhetoric got heated otherwise. You got pretty heated, Anthony, at times … Anthony, you have had an utter disdain for Trump, you will always be welcome at the table of legacy media and have people nodding as you trash Trump, that’s always going to happen,” Kernen began.
“But aren’t you the slightest bit embarrassed or at least humbled about how wrong you were about the feeling of most Americans, let me finish, for enthusiastically supporting a candidate [Vice President Kamala Harris] who a majority of people thought had no business being anywhere near the Oval Office, and you’re a Republican, you saw all the different policies she was talking about are anathema to what you thought your whole life, and yet you went along with it,” Kernen said.
“Joe, first of all, I immediately put out a congratulatory tweet. They won, we lost and in the immortal words of Barry Diller when he lost the Paramount deal, ‘next year.’ What would you like me to do? Do you want me to get on a bended knee before you? That’s not gonna work,” Scaramucci responded.
Scaramucci claimed he has witnessed the “ugliest” traits of Trump after working for him in the previous administration and suggested that Kernen is ignoring the president-elect’s flaws.
“I think he’s been very good for your career, Anthony. I think he’s been incredibly good. You’re here, are you not? And you’re gonna be welcome anywhere you want to go. I think he’s been very good for you, and you have to live off this for another four years,” Kernen said.
“Joe, why don’t you calm down a second? We’ve known each other a long time. Are you saying that you and I can’t disagree on somebody’s personality? Is that what you’re saying?” Scaramucci said. “And you’re saying what I’m saying in terms of identifying those features and traits of the personality. You don’t see those too but you’re choosing to ignore them?”
Kernen responded that most Americans obviously were much more concerned about policy differences between Trump and Biden-Harris.
Scaramucci then asserted that Trump advocated for using the military to target his political opponents, specifically Democratic California Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff. But in reality, the president-elect suggested deploying the U.S. military in response to any political unrest that might occur after the election.
